Beagle Large Dog Portrait of Penny Oil Painting

Penny
24x18 inches oil on canvas
SOLD
Here is another lovely dog portrait painted in memoriam, which is always such an honor for me to help fill the void which is left when furred family members depart. Often client photos require some editing such as the case here where Penny's hind leg and tail were not shown, so I visualized and added them to complete the composition, as well as adding details in her eyes that were blurred in the original image. It is my pleasure to contribute this extra effort in order to bring my pet portraits to life.

Christmas 2012

Christmas Card 2012

This is always my time to extend a very special thank you to all my wonderful clients!  While some of you are still waiting for commissioned paintings to be completed, rest assured that I'll still be in and out of my studio this weekend and this week, inbetween shipping paintings, Christmas preparations, my birthday and then New Year's day.  May this year bring blessings and peace.  In memory of my father, a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, whom we recently lost during the holidays.

white poodle puppy custom pet portraits painted with love

"Sammi"
12x16 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
(Please excuse sway from digital camera; I really need another SLR.)
I love when people tell me a little about their pets so I can think about them while painting; somehow that helps me connect to them which always makes for a better painting.  When I first saw the reference photo of Sammi, my reaction was sheer delight!  Then I began considering cropping and editing the image to improve the composition, i.e., remove horizontal white moulding behind her head, etc.  However, something was lost in the process.  Yes, the result was a better composition but a little magic was lost, then I realized why!  Part of the undeniable charm of Sammi was her small proportion, enhanced by the background moulding and wide layout.  So in this case, although contrary to my design instinct, I chose to work as closely as possible to the photo reference in order to retain that irresistible, "Awwww," when I first saw her!  :o)

pet portrait English Springer Spaniel PET PORTRAITS FOR THE HOLIDAYS

"Finn"
8x10 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
A most delightful scene of serenity, a darling black and white English Springer Spaniel sits quite contentedly amidst fresh blue and white floral sheets in a Victorian bed with inlaid floral swags.  I always say it, but as I'm a still life artist first, these extra details in my pet portraits are an extra joy for me while painting!  The moment I saw the photo reference of Finn I knew I had to paint his portrait!

Two Westies exquisitely detailed

"Hamish and Miss Penelope"
8x10 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
It’s always such a joy creating pet portraits, and being introduced to their personalities prior to a painting always helps me impart those delicate nuances of expression to their darling little faces.  Pretty Miss Penelope (right) absolutely adores handsome Hamish (left) and follows him everywhere, although Hamish does sometimes need his alone time, too.

white cat sepia tones "Dozer Dozing" oil painting custom pet portraits painted with love

"Dozer Dozing"
7x5 inches oil on panel
SOLD
Beautiful Dozer is shown here in what I assume from his name, is a very common posture...dozing!  The lighting and composition were fabulous and enhanced by the sepia toned image. Dozer is the recipient of much love and attention from my client's parents.

Chihuahua cutom dog portraits painted with love

Chrissy
10x8 inches oil on panel
SOLD
This portrait of adorable little Chrissy was painted in memoriam, as are so many of my pet portraits;  I always feel honored to fulfill such a request especially from a fellow artist. I just love her rosey pink nose with fawn and white coloring, and a hint of her pink collar is so complementary. Chrissy was loved by everyone who met her, and one look into those big, beautiful eyes I can absolutely see why!

Boxer custom pet portrait oil painting Christmas gifts holidays

"Lacey"
12x9 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
Here's is beautiful Lacey, with her heart melting eyes and velvety ears (which I'm so very happy weren't cut as is often done).  I'd had a Boxer once many years ago and recall petting those velvety soft ears, rounded forehead and strong body.  In this portrait I especially like Lacey's alert posture.  Originally I'd contemplated cropping the bottom about an inch or so but then considered how expressive she was so chose to present her sitting tall.  Boxers have such sweet dispositions...maybe you'd consider visitng your local rescue to adopt a sweetheart as lovely as Lacey!

fawn in hiding 4x4

Fawn in Hiding
4x4 inches / oil on archival quality panel
 SOLD
So often when hikers come upon a fawn hovering in the underbrush they think it’s been abandoned so initiate a “rescue” by delivering it to a wildlife animal shelter. Unfortunately, such good intentioned folks don’t realize that this seemingly defenseless fawn has only been left temporarily so as not to draw attention while mother grazes elsewhere. Beyond the familiar white spotted camouflage, a fawn will remain completely motionless which is very successful as they have no scent at all. So if you come upon a fawn in hiding, trust that Nature...and it’s mother...know best.

Shadow from Belize to Texas. Another story of rescue with a happy ending

 Shadow
11x14 inches oil on panel
SOLD
Another story of rescue with a happy ending! Every year while my client vacationed in Belize, she saw this abandoned black dog crabbing for food along the shore where locals taunted him. He followed her around and she named him Shadow.  However, she was always saddened when she'd leave him behind to head back to Texas...until one year she just had to bring Shadow home where he now lives very happily with his two siblings, Lizzie and Josephine, whose portraits are forthcoming.

"Buster"...another "tail" of rescue and adoption

"Buster"
8x10 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
...and here's Maggie's new brother, Buster, a Beagle mix who is also a rescued pup!  When you scroll down to see Maggie, you'll realize that it was truly a blessing that Buster was offered for adoption at the same time.  I suspect that Buster helped Maggie recover from her intense fear, and likewise, Maggie must have helped Buster.  Together they are enjoying a new life full of love and security with lots of play time!  They're truly special little pups.  Everytime I've heard of rescued animals being adopted, and from my own personal experiences, it seems they never forget who saved them!  I just love stories like Maggie and Buster with happy endings...or shall I say happy beginnings!
If you have a story of rescuing a pup, kitty, bird or horse or other little one whose portrait you'd like painted, please email me at jeanneillenye@sbcglobal.net

Custom Pet Portraits Painted with Love

"Maggie"
10x8 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
Maggie, a Rat Terrier, was rescued by my client's daughter when she saw a photo of her online.  It was love at first sight!  So, although ill at the time, she hopped on a train and endured the 3+ hour ride to meet Maggie for the first time.  They had another pup there also, just in case she didn't like Maggie.  Well, you can anticipate the happy ending...she took both home right away!  Maggie spent the first week in her new home, huddled in a corner shivering with fear, but as you can see, her recovery is fabulous!  Love conquers all.  Look for her new brother, Buster a Beagle mix, coming up on my blog tomorrow!

Osa is an absolutely exquisite Ragdoll cat with big blue eyes, who is pictured here on a teal moire, tufted sofa with fringed, floral tapestry pillow.  She is only a 10 month old kitten but will become quite big as an adult, and is very lovable.  Just imagine snuggling kisses in all that thick fur!

My sister's miniature Dachshund, SCHATZI Happy Birthday, Sib!

 S c h a t z i
8x10 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
Schatzi is my sister's spunky little Dachshund who loves to run like lightening; as tiny as she is, we have to get out of her way!  She prances around the house carrying her favorite toy, which is anything new, has a wardrobe of clothes and accessories including a cute red raincoat and even has a float for the pool.  She'll do anything for a kibble, and when it comes to her Christmas stocking, she'll bark at it for days until Santa fills it.  She's quite a spritely handful, as you can see Mary holding her, above.  For special occasions, not only is Mary's attire color coordinated to her tablescape, but Schatzi's is, too!  In this oil portrait she's shown wearing her first set of pearls, actually her mother's...afterall, what girl doesn't love "bing"?  This charming portrait was a birthday gift from Mary's hubby, Bob.

Ebe and Bijou black tuxedo cat portrait heavenly glance

Ebe and Bijou
5x7 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
I'd have preferred to paint two separate portraits, but because one kitty was deceased my client wanted to show their relationship by having one looking back toward the other as if in a heavenly glance.  It's a dually commemorative painting about friendship...a gift from one friend to another, as well as the loving friendship between two kitties who still seem to be in communication even from heaven.

Daschund & Vizsla Mixed Breed Classical Dog Portrait in Oil

Zeke
10x8 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
Beautiful Zeke, whose unusual mixed breed clearly shows a lineage of Daschund in his long body structure and Vizsla in his face with golden green eyes and mauve pink nose.  Happily, Zeke is also a rescued pup!  After celebrating his recent birthday, Zeke is very busy preparing for the upcoming 14th Annual Mighty Texas Dog Walk.  He has also enjoyed the uniquely wonderful facilities at Barking Hound Village kennel that is proud to work with DFW Rescue Me offering pets "A New Leash on Life" as well as Paws in the City of Dallas to foster dogs until they find new homes.  Take a look at these websites or stop by to become acquainted with their good deeds and perhaps you'll even find a new furred friend (or two!) who will joyfully slobber you with big kisses of gratitude if you provide them with the love they so deserve by welcoming them into your family!
