This is a tribute to a fellow artist's beloved Jack. Karin Jarick has set up a blog, "Different Strokes for Different Folks" in memorium for him, which profiles a new photograph every week for artists to use as inspiration. The concept is absolutely fabulous, as it permits a view inside the mind of an artist, revealing how each work of art is as vastly unique as the artists themselves.

"I am mesmerized by the pet paintings you have done. How did you ever figure out how to paint their souls?" Deborah C.

Jeanne, You really, really did an amazing job with this painting. Your decision to create a pillow in place of that blah sofa was brilliant! The sensitive handling of the brush, the warm tones and the perfect cropping of the image make this the nicest version of the bunch (IMHO). I grew up with a beagle named Emily, so I was partial to the painting before I saw the fun challenge.
P.S. My wife Susan, seconds this opinion.
Mark, thank you sooo very much for such praise, indeed! This is only my third animal painting so I didn't know how I'd fare with the rest in the blog. I particularly like the Beagles for their bone structure and coloration, although admittedly I only have cats.... I'm sure your Emily must have been beautiful! Sincere thanks to you and Susan for your lovely comments! Jeanne
Well, Mark has said everything I was planning to say here! Lovely version of Jack, and changing out the pillow for the chair is really successful
Thank you so much, Terry! I guess adding that pillow is somewhat revealing that I am actually a still life artist.... Sincere thanks for your lovely comments! Jeanne
I wanted you to know how very clever I thought you were for putting in that pillow and simplfying the background to focus your eye on Jack. Well Done!
Thank you so much, Alice! Well, composition is the most important element to me, so I immediately cropped the original...and that pillow was such a quickie it just sort of evolved while I was painting Jack! Thanks again for your kind remarks! Jeanne
