Here's Misty, one of Anne's gorgeous girls! Misty's coloring is so exquisite with her hint of brindle markings. The original photo did not show legs, feet or tail so I had to improvise. Like Falen (posted previously) I chose to place Misty on an oriental rug with plush velvet pillows tossed for interest. Misty's coloring inspired a warm, earthy palette whereas you'll see in Falen's portrait that I selected a rich, reddish gemstone coloration which repeated her shimmering pinkish coat. These two portraits will be framed and displayed as a set.

This
was quite a lot of fun to paint. Working from an old photograph from 1973, I'd
color corrected it in my mind's eye while painting, lowered the roofline,
raised the ground level, moved the left window toward the center more, and
added a third window in order to improve the composition. Such a nostalgic
painting and my client is absolutely thrilled with it, saying I captured her
and Freckles even better than the photograph!

A most delightful scene of serenity, a darling black and white English Springer Spaniel sits quite contentedly amidst fresh blue and white floral sheets in a Victorian bed with inlaid floral swags. I always say it, but as I'm a still life artist first, these extra details in my pet portraits are an extra joy for me while painting! The moment I saw the photo reference of Finn I knew I had to paint his portrait!

Painting a pet portrait is so personal that when important events occur in the lives of their pets, my clients will often contact me to share their news. Such was the case today when Molly's mother, Kathy, notified me of an issue with Molly's digestive system which resulted in surgery to remove a large cancerous cyst. There's normally only a 40% success rate, and she didn't seem well enough to sustain the surgery, but lo and behold, this smiling little girl is happy again and on the mend! Kathy told me how having Molly's portrait gave her comfort during the process of so many veterinarian visits and surgery, so I thought I'd repost her portrait in celebration!
Thank goodness Molly is well again!! ;o)

Adorable little Molly is always with her fuzzy, worn tennis ball. Here she's cautiously standing on a small wall with a lovely, grassy field behind her. Her beautiful mottled golden brown, black and gray fur was a joy to paint, especially since it just grew back this year!

When I first saw my client's photos of Lady, I was immediately drawn to her deep, soulful eyes that could melt anyone's heart. Her sleepy expression of contentment is so charming here as she lounges on her favorite plush chair, a delightfully cozy spot alongside the window. Another beautiful story of a lovely dog rescued by a kind hearted man who gave her a "forever home" in his home and heart.
